On Friday 26th March delegates from Barnet UNISON branch will attend the London Region Local Government AGM.  The branch executive passed the following motion and submitted it to the AGM.

Barnet College is facing the worst level of cuts it has ever had.

Barnet College UNISON, along with the teaching Unions, has recently participated in a joint lobbying with the College Principal of Hendon MP Andrew Dismore to call for a review of the Learning Skills Council's funding strategies.

First time Voters

Barnet Trades Council commissioned Barnet College students to look at how first time voters could be encouraged to take part in elections.

Redundancies: an S188 Notice was issued to Union officers and representative today outlining potential posts at risk as a consequence of the anticipated shortfall in College funding 08/09 and 09/10. Details of an Accelerated Voluntary Redundancy Scheme have also been published.

Members Vote ‘Yes’ To Pay Offer And Send Clear Message To Colleges: ‘Implement The Deal Or Face A Wave Of Anger’.

Last week saw a number of Joint Trade Union meetings at a number of Barnet College sites. Barnet College along with most FE colleges has been going through serious funding problems over the last few years due to changes in funding. The governments ‘Train to Gain’ has exacerbated matters and there does not appear to be an end to these problems.
