Crisis of morale hits local government

"Local government employers need to realise that morale is at an all time low," UNISON warned today as it published its 2008 survey of local government workers.

"Staff and services are already stretched to breaking point," added the union’s head of local government Heather Wakefield.

NJC PAY UPDATE

A full meeting of the NJC went ahead on 22 April 2009.  Members of the Trade Union Side, insulted by the employers’ 0.5% pay offer and the threat to withdraw it unless accepted by 1 June, made forceful arguments for the employers to think again.

Local government unions condemn 'mean' pay offer

Local government unions have warned employers that the 0.5% pay offer for England, Wales and Northern Ireland is totally unacceptable, and it called on them to open meaningful negotiations as a matter of urgency.

2008 Pay agreed

As you may have heard, following arbitration by ACAS, our pay increase for 2008/2009 was increased to 2.75%.

The following are the revised pay scales. We do not yet know when the increase will be paid.

Trade unions' submission to ACAS

On 4 February 2009, the trade unions made their written submission to ACAS to decide on the 2008/9 pay claim.
