Once again Barnet UNISON members have agreed to take strike action. On Thursday 9 February our members will be\u00a0taking <\/strong>their fourth day<\/b> of action in response to the One Barnet Project which seeks to transfer the majority<\/strong> of the staff out of the Council. <\/span><\/p>\n

The total cost of these projects will look to exceed \u00a32Billion<\/strong> which is why the Big Private Sector Fat Cats are all lined up to try and win the contracts!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It would be easy for our members who are\u00a0feeling exhausted & helpless\u00a0to give up and just accept that they are to be handed over to the private sector. It would be dishonest if I was to say that our members morale at times has been low. <\/span><\/p>\n

But who could blame them? <\/o:p><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Whilst having to come to terms with being outsourced and worrying if their job will even remain in the borough (a large number of the services could easily be shipped off out of London) they are now facing more restructuring and possible compulsory redundancies before any outsourcing has taken place!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

So, by agreeing to take action on Thursday 9 February<\/strong>, our members are making a big <\/strong>statement. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

They want to remain<\/b> Council employees; they want in-house<\/b> services to be allowed to compete with the Private Sector Fat Cats, and most of all they want to serve<\/b> the community they are passionate<\/strong> about. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

That is why a group of strikers will; after taking part in the picket line,\u00a0depart to help out a local Charity. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our members want to make it clear that \u201cwhilst they will be withdrawing <\/b>their labour from the Council, they are not<\/b> withdrawing their commitment<\/b> to the community they are so proud<\/strong> to serve!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I am proud of their of their courage and determination to stand up for themselves and services in the face of the relentless political dogma<\/strong>. A political dogma which fails<\/strong> to understand and appreciate\u00a0the hard work of\u00a0staff currently delivering services to Barnet residents. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDoing nothing is not an option for our members!\u201d<\/o:p><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This is why I am so proud of them. <\/span><\/p>\n
